Dussehra it is one of the famous festival for all the Hindus and also for all the Indians. The festival is celebrated on the great occasion of victory of truth over lie or Asatya pr satya ki vijay.
here truth or satya symbolize lord Ram whereas lie or Asatya symbolize Dushanan Ravan . On the day of Dussera Lord Ram had killed Ravan.
From our childhood we are taught that Ravan was bad and told all its negative sides but DO you know some real facts about ravan .To know about ravan let us first see -
Who was Ravan?
Ravan was actually known as Dashanan which mean a person having 10 heads. He was one of the most intelligent and popular priest of his time. Dashanan was the greatest devotee of lord Shiva. he was also a great scholar of vastu. he has mainly 3 brothers Kumbkarana , Vibhishana and Kuber. yes lord kuber was also the brother of ravan.
Dashanan Ravan was considered as a main villain in Ramayana. So let us know its reality -
Some most unknown facts about Dashanan Ravan
As I already mentioned Ravan was very intelligent and also a popular priest of his time. he was also a great devotee of lord shiv. Some most unknown facts about ravan are as follows -
1. Ravan never touched Sita ...
Goswami tulsidas the writer of Ramcharitra Manas explains that Ravan was a Brahmin and also very intelligent. He kidnaped or abducted maa sita from Panchvati Van and took her with him to his kingdom Lanka. Maa sita used to live in Ashok Vatika . Ravan used to ask her to be his wife but Maa sita always refused. In spite of being rejected dashanan never tried to force her and even not touched here. this shows that he respect women and was also a respected person.
2.Ravan was a mixture of Asurs and Devta...
Ravan was the son of Maharishi Vishrava who was a great rishi and even considered as the son of Lord Brahma. he was married with a Asur kanya Kaikesi. Ravan has the quality of both of them (His parents)
he was very intelligent and a great scholar of Vastu whereas he was also a great warrier he was having the great Astra. he was very powerful and was also having a boon (vardan) that no one can kill him except Manav (Humans) and Vanar (Monkeys).
3.Ravan was very powerful even God works in his Palace...
In spite of being Very intelligent he was very powerful and was also a great warrier. You will be shocked to know that even The God works in his palace. Ramcharitra manas states that -
The king of God Devraj Indra fills water in Ravan's palace.
The god of Air Vaayudev cleans the floor of his palace.
4. He got his Gold palace known as Sone ki Lanka as a dakshina from lord shiv....
Ravan was having a great palace which was full of gold but do you know from where he got this. So let me tell you a story - As Ravan was a great Shiv bhakt, he want that his aaradhy Lord shiv should not live in a forest of Kailash . He want to build a great palace for him(lord shiv). But shiv was a Vairagi he don't want any home but then also he agreed. Ravan felt very happy and built a Great Palace for him. After building the palace he performed a Yagya at the ocassion of the Graha pravesh. As he was a Brahmin lord shiv asked him to take Dakshina he thought that if he will ask for this palace he will also get lord shiv with him and will be able to live with lord shiv So he asked for that palace and tell lord shiv to live with him but lord shiv refused and told him that he had asked for the palace not for the people living in it. hence he get the gold palace as a dakshina.
5. Ravan performed a Yagya for Ram....
Yes this was true that Ravan performed a Yagya for Ram at the Rameshwaram samudra tat. As he was the only great pandit in southern India. In the hindu culture yagya or puja can take place only in couple that's why Ravan also took sita with him for the Yagya . When ram asked him for his dakshina he said him that he will take sita along with him. He also gave the Blessing(Ashirvaad) of Vijay Bhava (a blessing to be win) to Ram .
This 5 points proves that Dashanan ravan was not bad. he was a great personality and also a great brahmin and a shiv bhakt. This whole Ramayan was pre planned and was done to give an example of truth and dharma to us. The main purpose of Ravan to fight with lord Ram is just to attain Moksh.
I hope that through this post I am able to change your view towards Ravan... A great thing i want to share with you that Before dying Ravan told Ram that till on this earth lord Ram will be remembered people will remember Ravan too and he will become Amar in all of our hearts...
